A Republic of Virtue?

Do we have one? Our founding fathers based our style of government upon the two pillars of religion and morality, both of which are under attack from the communist/liberal left.
The New American magazine published by the organization the communist left just loves to hate(The John Birch Society) published an article under the same title as this one, bringing out the importance of virtue and self-government. The two undergirding elements of self-government are freedom and personal responsibility, without which we would degenerate into anarchy or tyranny.
Without a moral citizenry, the Republic cannot endure. Montesquieu's "The Spirit of Laws" states that tyranny must cultivate a capacity of fear in people, a monarchy must cultivate a capacity for honor, and a Republic must cultivate a capacity for VIRTUE. Self-rule must always be moral.
John Witherspoon, signer of the Declaration of Independence, said, "civil liberty cannot be preserved without virtue" and a Republic "must either preserve its virtue, or lose its liberty". George Washington and John Adams both agreed that piblic virtue cannot exist in a nation without private virtue! The lack of virtue among the electorate will lead to the election of nonvirtuous officials.
So why do we elect such people as Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton, Schwartzneggar, McCain or Gingrich?! Now Mr. Gingrich is coming in to Wisconsin to help Tommy Thompson. Do birds of a feather flock together? And how about "Mr. Federal Reserve System" Herman Cain?
Some one should ask Mr. Thompson how he feels about the present Governor of Oregon keeping his mistress in the Governor's mansion? Should such people be elected to office? You might as well put the Mob in charge of the state. When people I trust tell me Tommy's conduct has been in the same vein, I am shocked and would like him to answer the question. The same questions were raised about my state representative, and they turned out to be true.
Does Mr. Thompson also support the communist homosexual agenda? Was he the Governor that allowed mob gambling into the state? Doesn't he support Agenda 21 and micro-chip implants? Didn't he support the bail-out? We don't need the "Godfather" of Wisconsin rhino republicanism and neoconservatism representing our state.
The Father of the American revolution, Samuel Adams said, "he therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of this country who tries to promote its virtue and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chose into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man.."
